The Dark Side of E-commerce Industry in India
The e-commerce industry in India has seen tremendous growth over the years, but with this growth, unethical practices by e-commerce brands have also become a major concern¹. Some of these practices include unethical pricing tactics to gain an edge over competitors, manipulation of customer reviews, false advertising, bait and switch tactics, and data mining without customer consent¹²³⁴.
According to a report by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the exploitation of e-commerce channels through unethical business practices of online retailers in India has led to lakhs of shops being forced to close¹. The government has received complaints regarding unethical practices by e-commerce companies which are being handled under the Consumer Protection Act 1986³.
It is important for consumers to be aware of these unethical practices and report them when they encounter them. This can help prevent further exploitation by e-commerce brands and protect consumers from being misled into buying products that may not be of good quality.
